Our past Halloween fun!

Ever since Jon and I started dating, we have enjoyed dressing up.  Jon is a pretty good sport and goes along with my costume ideas, but I do try and make them fun for the both of us :)

The 1st year Jon and I were together, we dressed as Mario & Princess Peach.  That was a lot of fun, Jon had a hard time with his mustache, but other than that he loved it.
2008, me with my terrible short hair!
Our 2nd year, I REALLY wanted us to go as clowns, not scary clowns, just regular, fun loving clowns, I love clowns! lol, I think that are so funny and fun, they have always been my favorite thing about going to the circus!  Anyway, I waited too long to buy our costumes, so I wasn't able to find clown costumes for us :( So that year, we were as pirates, I was not happy about it! It was just so unoriginal and it wasn't cute or fun, but I did my best with it, and we both had a blast :)
2009
Finally, on our 3rd halloween, I was able to get the clown costumes I had my heart set on! I of course had to order our costumes by early September, but I got them and I was very happy! These costumes had been both of favorites yet! I was a cute clown, but Jon did a pretty good job being a creepy clown, and he lived it up! He loved that no one knew who he was because he went all out with getting his face painted, wearing the clown shoes and the wig.  It was really funny watching him that night.  He definitely was the life of the party that night!
2010
Last Halloween, Jon and I were still pretty new to Washington, so we didn't plan our costumes, so we reused our clown costumes because they are so much fun :)  and once again, Jon was the life of the party that night.  He becomes a whole new clown when he's dressed as one! lol
2011
This year, since we don't have much planned, we are keeping it pretty simple.  I let Jon chose our costumes this year, so guess what we are going as? Ninja turtles! lol.  He's been wanting to dress as one for a while now, so thats what we are going to be.  It'll be a fun simple costume, Ill make sure to post pictures of us soon!

1 year anniversary photo shoot!

Jon and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary back in July.  I really wanted to get some anniversary pictures taken, so we recruited our awesome friend Andrew from Andre Paul Photography, and we headed back to Zenith Vineyard, where Jon and I got married, and had a really fun photo shoot!  I made some fun crafts to incorporate into the photos, and of course put Miley in a cute lil dress and brought her along for the fun too!

Andrew did such an AMAZING job!!! It was so hard to only pick out a few, but here are my favorite ones!

The cute banner Jon made for me, I made sure to bring it along!
Typical Jon and Wendy :)
Our wine glass wedding favors. You cant really see it, but they say our names and wedding date.
Can I just say that my heart skipped a beat when I saw this picture?!!! I just LOVE this picture, Miley looks SO cute!  This picture makes my heart VERY happy!
Lucky to have found my prince charming!
In front of our wedding venue

I cant wait to get these pictures into frames and up onto our walls!  This was a very fun shoot, I want to go back to Zenith for all of our big anniversaries and take pictures like this, I think it'll be fun to look back at them as we get older.

Cheers to 1 great year of marriage and for many more to come! I love you forever Mr. Burns!

Our weekend in Portland!

Jon and I headed out to Portland last weekend for our good friends wedding and to spend some time with our family.  We had such a great time! It was nice to hangout and relax with our friends and to also spend some time and catch up with our family.

Jon's manager drove us to the airport on Thursday afternoon, and he was also kind enough to watch Miley for us.
Miley was sad that she was missing out on our trip back to Portland.
A great thing about living in San Jose is that our flight back home is only an hour and a half, so the flight was super quick!  When we arrived to Portland, Jon's dad and brother picked us up and then we headed out to dinner.  We decided to go to "Old Chicago" Jon and I used to there all the time when we lived in Oregon, so we wanted to go back and have some of their delicious food!
Dinner and drinks with the Burns men
Jon's dad & little brother
This is "Baked Spaghetti Pie" And can I say OMG!!! This was SOO good, I still think about this, and I'm going to attempt to make this at home soon!
After dinner, Jon and I were dropped off at our friends Koli & Kyle's house.  Koli & Kyle and the rest of their wedding party had just gotten back from their rehearsal dinner, so it was a fun night hanging out and catching up with friends!
I definitely miss these ladies!
Friday was a fun wedding planning filled day! Us girls were up bright and early and then headed out to get all the last minute things done.  We spent all morning and most of the afternoon making all of the flower arrangements and bouquets, it was a lot of fun. Of course the Oregon weather was out in full force with the cold wind and rain, so we also spent most of the day praying that it wouldn't rain the next day for the wedding.
Koli's aunt is so cute, she sent Koli this super cute outfit to wear while we were working on wedding stuff.  The front of the overalls says "Here comes the bride" and she had a special "Bride" hat, and she even made her those super cute glitter shoes.
Koli with her bridesmaids, minus 1.  Koli's aunt also made the bridesmaids aprons with their names on them.  So creative and cute!
All the ladies hard at work
Hard at work popin bottles! lol
Roses galor!
After working all day, we all spent our evening getting pampered with mani and pedis.  After the mani and pedi's, I met up with my friend Courtney, and guess where we went?! To Bartini of course! and of course it was great and delicious!
Our fondue and martinis :)
The day of the wedding was a BUSY day! I was the day of wedding "go to" person, so I spent most of the day running around, making sure the bride was happy and not stressed and making sure everything was where it needed to be.  It was such a fun day, I love being able to help and doing all of the behind the scene things.  I even got to drive a golf cart for the 1st time, which was fun! lol.
The bridesmaids
The bride and groom, their 1st dance
Jon and I with Koli
Alyson and I, she was my maid of honor at my wedding.  Her husband was Koli & Kyle's wedding photographer
The wedding was beautiful and so much fun AND there was NO rain during the day! It sprinkled a little in the morning but other than that, it was a dry day! YAY!

Sunday, we spent the day with my family.  My nephew was so cute and had gifts for Jon and I, he got us each an iPhone cases, he got Jon a blue one and I of course got a pink one.  I have such a sweet little nephew! Thats definitely something that sucks about being so far away, I hate that Im missing out on my nieces and nephews growing up.

Were not sure where we are heading back to Oregon, but my friend Courtney is coming to visit next month, and hopefully, we have more friends and family come down to visit us soon too!  Its nice to be back home, enjoying the California weather!

Guess what???!!!!

I got the job I had my heart set on!!!! I got the official offer yesterday afternoon and it totally made my day, weekend, and life! lol.

Now that I FINALLY landed a job, I feel like I can finally relax and start enjoying our new life in California! I cant wait to celebrate this weekend and to explore our area.  I don't start my new job until the 29th, so I still have another week to get prepared for my new venture.

Happy Friday!!!!

Interview time

Update on my job search:

I just got home for 2 interviews and they both went GREAT!!! Im really excited about both jobs and I have a good feeling about them!

My 1st interview was this morning with Stanford University, working in the pediatric oncology department.  I meet with about 6 different people and got a really good feeling about this job.  Its something that Ive done in the past, working at OHSU.  I would love to get back in the academic /  medical field, and working for Stanford doesn't look too bad on a resume either, lol.  I got this interview through a temp agency, so I would start off as a temp and then get hired on.  The only downfall about this is the traffic, its only about 30 mins away but with traffic it took me and hour and a half to get there, SO I would have to ride public transportation, which isn't too bad, I did it for 4 years in Portland, so I'm used to it, but it nice having your car with you and being able to come and go as you please.

My 2nd interview was with Community Solutions, and OMG, this is pretty much my dream job! This is a non profit organization that helps children, teens, and families in need, ranging from substance abuse, domestic violent, and child abuse.  Ever since I was a kid, I have always wanted to work at a place like this.  Coming from a home with domestic violence, I have always wanted to get involved in making a difference in other peoples lives that are living thought the same thing.  This is a place that I would be proud to be working at, knowing that I'm helping people in need and making a difference in the world.  The interview went really, well, I have a good feeling about this job too!

In all honesty, I would much rather work at community solutions, because this is something I have always wanted, but I would of course be happy with any job that I get.  Now its time to wait, and hopefully I get some good news SOON!!

Heroin Chicken

Last week I tried out a new recipe and it turned out really good! Jon LOVED it, and it was really easy to make so we both win! :)

I found the recipe on pinterest of course, i think the name is a little interesting, but its named heroin chicken because its so addicting.  Original recipe found here.

All you need is this, and chicken of course! :)
2 cups grated parmesan cheese
3 tablespoons dried parsley
2 tablespoons dried oregano leaves
3 teaspoons paprika
2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon pepper
2/3 cup melted butter
Preheat the oven to 350

Mix together all of the seasonings and parmesan cheese
Line  a shallow baking pan with foil, make sure to do this!!

Melt the butter in a bowl.  Then dip each piece of chicken into the butter, and then into the seasoned cheese, coating well.

Bake the chicken for 30-45 mins at 350, and you're done! I served the chicken with mashed potatoes and corn.  DELISH!!!

This dinner was a huge success and I will definitely be making this again.  Im going to attempt to use this recipe on chicken wings, I'm sure that'll be another win in the Burns household! :)

Oh and for dessert, we had THIS!

If you love Oreos and chocolate, um, you MUST make these delicious cupcakes!!! They are SO amazing! I did a special blog post about these beauties here!

Hunting....

Well, I've been jobless for over a month now and I'm really starting to lose hope! I apply to at least 5+ jobs a day and I feel like i haven't had any luck at all! Ive gone to 3 job interviews, no luck.  Ive meet with numerous temp agencies, no luck!  I had a phone interview with Stanford University on Tuesday, which I was very excited about.  I think i did well on the phone interview, but now I have to wait at least 2 weeks to find out if I made it to the second round of interviews.  So I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I get a call back, that's the job that I want! I want to work at another university like at OHSU, so I'm trying to get back into that field.

But starting to get really discouraged! What is wrong with me?? Why cant I find a freaking job??!!! I have lots of experience and great references, what the heck is going on??  Every week I think "This is the week, I'll find something great this week!" It just hasn't happened.  This is the longest I've ever gone being unemployed, and I'm not a fan! I really hope I find something this month, because I don't know what we are going to do if we go another month with me not having a job.

Thats part of the reason why I haven't been blogging as much as I used to, I just feel guilty spending time blogging about life, when I should be looking for a job, but at the same time, you can look for a job for only so many hours a day, ya know?

Anyway, thats it for today.  I have many things I can blog about, like the exciting news that my niece finally had her baby boy last night, so I am now a "great" aunt to 2 sweet little boys!  Ill make sure to write about that exciting part of my life soon! My awesome little sister turned 20 years old on Tuesday,  I've also tried out a new yummy chicken recipe and made my delicious Oreo cupcakes again! So that'll all be on here soon!  Hope everyone is having a great week!

We are team Burns, and we can make it through anything as long as we have each other.

Weekend recap!

This weekend was so much fun!!! This is the 1st weekend Jon and I actually explored around us and enjoyed our new California life!  The sun was shinning and we enjoyed it to it fullest!

Friday night, we drove around and we found an awesome taqueria! They seriously had the best tacos!  This is definitely our new go to place!
My delicious carnitas tacos!
Jon got carne asada tacos
After we stuffed our faces, we spent the rest of our evening at home.  We finally watched "What to expect when you're expecting"!  Ive been wanting to watch that movie for SO long! It was such a cute movie, I really liked it, Jon thought that it had more comedy in it, but he liked it too.

Saturday morning, we headed to the beach! Something Jon and I have been wanting to do since we moved here! Santa Cruz was about a 45 min drive and it was so much fun! We hung out at the boardwalk, checked out the shops and rides, had some lunch, and then laid out on the beach.  When we 1st got there, it was overcast and a little cold, but soon enough, the clouds went away and the sun came out to play!
I was very excited about our drive to the beach!
This is how overcast the beach was when we 1st got there.
There was a cheer competition going on, so we sat and watched it for a few mins.
Our healthy lunch! lol
I thought Laffing Sal was really creepy
Sunshine!
It was so pretty!
Enjoying our day together!
Before we left I HAD to have the deep fried oreos! They are just too good to resist!
After our beach adventure, we spent our evening at home watching the Duck game, which they won! Yay! Go Ducks!
The game put Miley to sleep! She's not much of a sports fan! lol
We spent our Sunday relaxing, and doing some of this....

Hope everyone had a fun filled weekend!

Lets hope I have some luck this week with finding a job!
