DIY Make Up Stand

Last month I crafted a fun & cute makeup stand for my bathroom and I love the way it turned out! :)
This is a fun, easy and CHEAP craft :)
I got 3 of these trays at the .99 cent store, how great is that?
I had originally planned on painting a white base coat on the trays, followed by a pink coat.  That didnt work out too well...

The white turned out fine, but then when I started painting the pink over it, it went downhill.  The paint was not sticking and just coming off, so I had to go to plan B.

1st I washed off all of the original white paint and let them dry.  Then I headed to the craft store for some spray paint.
*2 small spray paint cans, which were about $2.99 each.  I ended up only using 1 can of paint.  That was enough to          paint all 3 trays with 2 coats of paint.
*1 sharpie paint pen, which I also didn't end up using.  I had planned on drawing a design onto the trays once they were painted pink, but decided not to, because I love the way they turned out :)
*Candle stick holders, which I got at goodwill a few years ago. You can also get them at the dollar store, not this exact style, but I'm sure you can find some there too.
I spray painted the 3 trays and let them dry for a few hours.
I love the way the pink turned out :)

Then I got to work on putting it all together.
I used my glue gun to put it all together, but I'm sure that you could use super glue or some sort of stronger glue. The top tier  of the stand is a little wobbly, so I don't put anything heavy on that shelf, but other than that, its been working out great!
I LOVE the way it turned out! and I really love the way it looks in my bathroom! It makes me thing of something I would see in the Betsy Johnson store, which is pretty awesome since her stores are amazing :)

Community day

Still no word from Seattle Children's, maybe i'll hear something back tomorrow? Fingers crossed!

I had a pretty good day at work today, it was community day, which meant that we only worked until noon, and then spent the rest of the afternoon participating in different activities held on campus.  They provided everyone with free lunch, which was lasagna and salad, which was delicious! Angela (my coworker) and I had lunch, watched some of the faculty members play some charades and then went to check out the art room.  I wasn't expecting much, but i was very happy when i saw all the paint and canvases sitting out on the table.  You could grab a canvas of any size and paint anything you wanted, Angela and I spent most of our time painting.
After the art room, we went to the auditorium and watched some performances from the "Talent, no talent show", it was pretty entertaining.  It was a nice way to spend the afternoon at work!
The chapel, where the opening ceremony was held.
The delicious lunch.  The good thing about working at a natural health college, everything is organic and extra yummy.
The HUGE cake, celebrating the school founders 100th birthday.
Beginning stages of my masterpiece
My final product
Jon also got home from his business trip to Canada, Miley has not left his side since he's been home, i guess she missed him?! lol

Happy St. Patricks Day!!!

Jon and I had an early start to our day today.  He headed to the gym and i headed to the nail salon to get my nails did.  I wasn't sure if u want to get acrylic nails or get a shellac manicure.  I went back and forth on this all week, and Jon was no help! lol.  So i decided to go with shellac, with french tips.  I think they turned out pretty well, but i think if i do shellac again, I'm going to go with a color, i think i like shellac better in color.
When i got home, i cleaned up a bit and then got started on my blanket.  Of course Miley wanted to help me with it.
She makes my heart smile!
Her idea of helping.  She was annoyed that i wouldn't play fetch with her, so she just sat there and stared at me.
I forgot to get a picture of my completed blanket, but it turned out great.  Its so soft and warm, now i need to make one for Jon and we can get rid of our ugly blankets.

Chris and Ainara came over later that night to celebrate St. Patricks day.  Jon switched the light bulb in my living room lamp with a green one.  As you can see from the picture below, we hung out in a green living room :)  We hung out at home for a while watching music videos and the boys played beer pong.
We then took a cab to Tony's
After Tony's we walked to the casino and then cabbed it back home.  We had a very fun night celebrating St. Patricks day!

What diet?!

Got home from work today to find my very 1st birchbox waiting for me! I was very excited that i finally received it.  For some reason i expected the box to be bigger, but it make sense that its a little box since im only receiving samples.
I haven't used any of the samples, but I'm excited to put them to use!

I've been wanting to make a blanket for the living room.  Right now the blankets that we have are not very cute, and I want move them out of the living room and into the closet, so Jon and I went to Jo-Ann fabrics so i can get some fabric to make my blanket.  Our couch is brown and black so i decided to go with black and leopard print :)  I think its going to look super cute!  We also went to Old Navy, because they are having a great sale on t-shirts right now, buy one get one free, my kind of deal! The shirts a cute basic t-shirts, which i love.  We also went to half priced books, a used book store and i got a Jodi Picoult book, which i have already read but don't own.  I want to own all of her books because she is my favorite author.  Half price books always has Jodi Picoult books, so i like check that place out.

Jon and I then went to dinner at the "Crossroads Grill" We really liked this reataurant, the server was really friendly and they had lots of tv's in the bar so Jon could watch his sports.
This is what he did durring dinner.  He carries his bracket with him in his wallet so he has it with him at all times.  Too funny!
Our dinner.  We decided to be bad and not eat healthy tonight, as you can see...  The food was really good too, we will definitely be back!

We then hit up safeway on the way home and got some snacks, Jon got healthy fruit bars, I got the unhealthy stuff, chaco tacos, double stuffed oreos and airheads! lol
I plan on working on my blanket tomorrow!

Weekend Recap

Jon and I has a pretty low key weekend.  Lets start off with Friday

I had a valentines craft night with Ainara.  We had a lot of fun!
We found cute heart shaped frames at Michael's for $1 and we painted them.  I also found a really cute valentines day gift idea on pinterest, so i decided to  make that for Jon too.
Our craft table ready for the fun!
More craft supplies

I decided to go with the Oregon Ducks theme with Jon's picture frame, so he can put it in his man cave or even put it on his desk at work.  It was pretty hard painting that "O" but I think it turned out pretty well :)

Working on our "52 reasons why i love you" deck of cards.

This deck of crafts was really fun and easy to make! All you need is:
  • deck of cards
  • single hole punch
  • construction paper (used to write our reasons and to glue onto each card)
  • Card stock to used on the front and back of the deck
  • Glue stick
  • Binder rings (I found them at Office max)
I'm excited to give this to Jon on Tuesday.  He's going to love it!.  We didn't get a chance to finish the deck of cards or to even start on our valentines day cards, so ill be back tomorrow night to show you our finished products :)  I love our Friday night craft nights.  It such a great start to the weekend!

Jon and I were up early on Saturday and got our taxes done and then went out to breakfast.  Then we headed to the mall and we found my valentines day outfit, yay! :)  I love shopping with Jon, he's always a big help!
We decided to head to the pizza bank for dinner, and i got an Italian soda, so yummy!!! The service sucked BUT the food and my drink were good!
Yummy!
My love!
We ended the night with a slumber party in the living room and "The Goonies" Great way to end our day!
Today has been very low key, we gave Miley a bath and did house chores.  I also made some yummy Oreo cake pops.  Melu from Only a Flight Away posted about them earlier this week so i decided to try it out!
This is what i used:
  • Chocolate candy melts
  • Pack of Oreo's (I didn't used the whole pack)
  • Popsicle sticks
  • cream cheese (about 2 spoonfuls)
  • Food processor

Put the cookies in a ziplock then crush them as much as you can
This is what it looked like after the crushing
In the food processor, grind until it looks like....
This! And then add a spoonful of cream cheese and grind some more, until its all mixed today.
Put them in a bowl and start making little balls.  Mine come out to be 12 Oreo pops
I put them on a cookie sheet linked with wax paper and then put in the freezer for 20 mins.
Once the pops were ready, i melted the chocolate.
I heated them in the microwave for about 1:00, stirred and then put them in again for about :30 seconds.  Once the chocolate was melted, i dipped the Popsicle stick in chocolate and then pushed them into the Oreo pop.  Then i dipped them each in the chocolate and decorated and then placed them onto a form base to cool and dry.
my final product! The turned out so cute and yummy!
